History
back to about Apriltsy
History proves that the lands of the today’s Apriltsy Municipality have been inhabited since the neolith – debris from an ancient settlement were discovered on Ostrets Peak. Many Thracian mounds are also discovered there – utensils and coins, descending from IV-III century B.C. Debris from strongholds are also kept – in the valley as well as in the place Tabite, under Mara Gidik Peak, on the ridge of the Rusaliiski pass. This pass, used also by the Romans, has connected North and South Bulgaria since the Antiquity.
The ancestors of the local people settled here when Bulgaria was conquered by the Ottoman Empire. Rebellious refugees from Tarnovo, Pleven and Sevlievo found better living conditions here.
In 1812 a monastery school was open and in 1850 – a secular one.
